A letter from Sharon Wright
President and CEO of Half Price Books
When we opened our first store 40 years ago, I don’t think anyone involved knew or dreamed of what we would become. We were all looking for a place to work that stimulated our minds, was fun and actually helped society. We invented it as we grew, always embracing the newest and oldest products and finding the best ways to provide them to our customers. Our policy, “We buy everything printed or recorded, except yesterday’s newspaper” keeps our possibilities limitless. As the company grows, the Half Price Books family is joined by new, equally enthusiastic people with fresh ideas, looking for new and better ways of doing things. I appreciate all of them for their dedication, their loyalty and their knowledge.
I thank our customers, many whom have been with us since day one. They come, sometimes daily, in search of the items they are passionate about, some selling to us and buying more, others building incredible libraries on a specific subject. Our customers provide over half our inventory, giving each of our stores a unique neighborhood mix of books, music, movies and more. Each day, new people are discovering us for the first time.
We plan to continue to provide the most interesting and exciting stores for our employees and customers to spend their days. We will offer the best products possible. And we will continue to be the largest, most diverse source of the printed word… on paper.
