Looking for a specific item?
Call any one of our locations, and our helpful employees will be
happy to look for your book. Leave your name and number with them (if you don't
want to listen to our hold music) and they'll call you back, take your shipping
and billing information over the phone and send you your book. If you search
for a book on our website, you’ll get search results that include some of our
inventory as well as more than 120 million titles from other independent
booksellers from around the globe.
Product Pricing Policy
We strive to be a company that lives up to our name. The vast
majority of the books and other items we sell are priced at half the current
list price or less, but a few are not. These include specially priced promotional
items, collectibles, and rare, out-of-print materials. For more information, we

Policy. Products listed on the HPB Marketplace are priced by
independent sellers and may or may not be half the publisher’s price or less.
Discounts
We love teachers and librarians. So, we offer a 10%
discount to public, private and home-school teachers as well as
school and city librarians. All you have to do to receive the discount is go to
any one of our Neighborhood Locations and present some sort
of identification that verifies you're an educator (i.e. pay stub, id
card/badge). One of our friendly employees will then give you a 10%
discount card good for one year at all of our stores. This discount
is not valid online.
In addition to educators, all customers who sign up for the Half Price Books mailing list will be subscribed to receive occasional discount offers and money-saving coupons in the mail or via e-mail. All of our locations buy all types of printed and recorded merchandise, all day every day. Just bring what you'd like to sell to a store near you and we'll make a cash offer while you wait. And our offers are for everything you bring in, not selected items so you don't have to lug anything back home! Determining the value of books and music isn't an exact science, but there are primary factors we always consider when buying used merchandise of any kind: condition, and supply and demand. We pay the most for recent best sellers and collectibles, but we're also interested in good books, music, and movies of all kinds. By law, we must ask to see a driver's license (or other government-issued photo I.D.) and get a signature when you bring books in to sell in order to verify that our customers don't knowingly engage in the trade of stolen merchandise for resale. And, because we’re dealing with cash transactions, we need to keep record of where our money goes. Thanks for your cooperation.
Whenever possible, we strive to donate overstock inventory to nonprofit agencies around the world. You may bring your merchandise to sell or donate to any of our Neighborhood Locations. If you have any questions about merchandise you want to sell, email Steve Leach, the Buy Guy.

We apologize if you're having trouble receiving your order from
HPB Marketplace. And we welcome you to notify HPB Marketplace Customer Service
so that we can ensure a positive experience with our Monsoon Partner
and continue to improve the program for our customers. However, Monsoon
is solely responsible for any customer service issues arising from sales
generated on the HPB Marketplace website. All questions, comments, etc., should

Merchandise purchased at any Half Price Books
"brick-and-mortar" location can be returned for cash or charge card
credit within 7 days of purchase along with a valid sales receipt at any of our neighborhood
locations. Please review our Store Refund Policy below for more

Refund Policy
Cash refunds and charge card credits on all merchandise
purchased at a Half Price Books store are available within 7 days of purchase
with the sales receipt. Merchandise charged to a credit card will be credited
to your account. Exchange or store credit will be issued for merchandise
returned within 30 days with sales receipt. Cash refunds for purchases made by
check are available after twelve (12) business days, and are then subject to
the time limitations stated above. Please include original packaging and price
tag when making a return. Proper I.D. and phone number may be required. We
reserve the right to limit or decline refunds. Gift cards cannot be returned
for cash. Software Policy: Returns accepted within one month with sales receipt
for store credit only. We obey all copyright laws.

Every order you make on our website is safe. We use strict
security precautions to make our website safe, including the use of a Secure
Socket Layer (SSL) server. Any information you enter while you're using the
secure server is encrypted before being transmitted, so it is virtually
impossible for an outside party to access or intercept your information. Your

Authenticating Emails
All emails sent to Half Price Books mailing list subscribers are
delivered through Chron Data, an authorized third-party on behalf of Half Price
Books. Sometimes these email communications include links to offers, such as
coupons or special promotions or contests. These links may appear as a URL
other than halfpricebooks.com; authentic emails and links from Half Price Books
will come from Chron Data servers and quickly redirect you to the page on
hpb.com, HPBmarketplace.com or halfpricebooksonline.com appropriately. If you
ever feel you've received a spoof or "phishing" email regarding Half
Price Books, please forward it to customercare@halfpricebooks.com,
with long headers included.
What is a spoof email?
A spoof email is simply an email that pretends to be from an
organization which asks you to log-in to your account and update your details.
It usually asks this on the pretense that requires action on your part, and
contains a link for you to click on and log-in to your account. The emails will
often look authentic. After you enter your details, the message may even say
that you've successfully updated your account. But what may have actually
happened is that you've provided your account details to a thief or scammer.
Tips to Avoid Spoofing & Phishing
To help you avoid spoof emails, please keep in mind the
following: Look for the "from" address on emails you receive; they
should originate from either Half Price Books or Chron Data. Half Price Books
will never ask for your personal financial information, such as social security
or bank account numbers. The only instance where you may provide Half Price
Books with financial information is when purchasing at halfpricebooksonline.com
or HPBmarketplace.com. Please see also, Shopping Safely & Securely. Never
log-in to to your account if you do not see halfpricebooks.com,
HPBmarketplace.com, ilovehalfpricebooks.com or halfpricebooksonline.com as the
primary URL in your web browser. False log-ins are deceptive, so make sure you

Accounts at Half Price Books
While using the Half Price Books website, you may have to create
up to 3 separate accounts: 1) your Subscriber Account, which allows you to
update your profile to remain on our mailing list for coupons and sale notices,
etc., 2) your HPB Marketplace account which allows you to purchase books and
other merchandise online from Half Price Books and other independent
booksellers around the globe, and 3) your Gift Card Shopper Account, which
allows you to make Gift Card purchases at the Half Price Books online store at
halfpricebooksonline.com. We understand that this can be confusing, but we’re
working on simplifying this for you. We won’t bore you with the technical

Trouble Printing e-Coupons
For mailing list subscribers, you may receive
e-Coupons in your email inbox that contain coupons with discount offers good
for in-store purchases. The coupon codes for the offers are contained within
the email itself. Print the email and bring it in to a Half
Price Books location during the offer valid dates. Present the
printed e-Coupon email at the register to receive your discount. If you incur
any problems printing your e-Coupons, please troubleshoot your printer driver
software or printing equipment by contacting the manufacturer directly.

1. How do I get a Half Price Books Gift Card?
HPB Gift Cards can be purchased online and at any of our retail stores.
2. Are there any fees? Does it expire?
No, your HPB Gift Card does not have any dormancy fees, nor will it expire. Use it whenever you'd like to shop at any of our retail HPB locations.
3. What's the balance on my gift card?
To check the balance on your HPB Gift Card, call 866-615-2665 or call your neighborhood HPB location. Or, ask at the register while you're in the store. You must have the card or card number with you in order to check the balance.
4. Can I use my gift card to shop online?
At this time, we cannot accept HPB Gift Cards as a method of payment on our website or the HPB Marketplace.
5. Is my gift card reload-able?
Yes, you can reload your HPB Gift Card at any time. Just ask at the register in any HPB store.
Placing Gift Card Orders
Order a Gift Card online, and you never have to leave home. Plus, you'll pay no sales tax and receive FREE SHIPPING for delivery in the United States. Create a free account with your billing and shipping information, and start shopping. The HPB online store makes it easy for you to save and manage addresses of your family and friends, so you can send another HPB Gift Card again, anytime of the year.
Buying HPB Gift Cards online is simple. Here's what you'll need to complete your purchase:
1. Recipient's mailing address for delivery to yourself or Gift Card recipient(s).
2. Valid e-mail address to receive a confirmation receipt of your order.
3. Credit card* account number, expiration date and Security Code. (Need help finding the Security Code?)
*For online gift card orders, we accept MasterCard, Visa, American Express and Discover.
Gift Card orders are usually processed within 24 hours of your online transaction. Once you place your order, you will receive an automatic confirmation e-mail to the e-mail address you provided when you created your free HPB online account. We recommend printing your confirmation e-mail for your own records; it contains your order number and summary of your purchase. If you have any questions regarding an order, you will need to provide us with the Order Number. Once an order has been processed and shipped, it cannot be cancelled. If you have any problems with your order, please contact our Gift Card Customer Service representatives and they'll be happy to help you.
Printing Receipts & Invoices
To view more information about a recent or past order, or to review and print invoices of previous orders, first log-in to your Gift Card Shopping Account with your email address and password. Under "My Account" select to view your "Order History." Then click "View." From this page you can review and print your receipts and invoices for your own records. Each transaction is assigned a unique Order ID number, which appears on your receipt and in your auto-confirmation email. You will need this Order ID number to reference the specific transaction if you need to call the Gift Card Customer Service Hotline regarding your order.
Problem With a Gift Card Order?
Are you missing an item? If you purchased more than one Gift Card, they may not arrive together. We may have split your order into multiple shipments, in which case, they will arrive in separate No. 10 envelopes. As there are no guarantees with postal delivery, Gift Cards may be separated in distribution and arrive on different postal delivery days.
Did you receive the wrong item? If you did not receive the item color or denomination that you ordered, please contact our Gift Card Customer Service department. We'll ask you for your Order Number, as well as information regarding the Gift Card you received. We may be able to send an additional or replacement Gift Card to you or your gift recipient(s).
Wondering where your order is? If you have not received your order within 20 business days, contact us at giftcards@halfpricebooks.com. In order to check the status of your order, you must provide us with your Order Number. Keep in mind postal holidays when expecting the delivery of your Gift Card. Standard first-class mail should arrive within 710 business days. Since we offer FREE SHIPPING for our customers, we cannot offer a delivery date guarantee. Reviewing My Orders
When you create an account at the HPB online store, we will store your information, including your order history. Log-in to your Gift Card Shopping Account with your email address and password. Under "My Account" select to view your "Order History." To view more information about a recent or past order, click "View." Click "Track" to view the shipment's current status. Was the HPB Gift Card a big success for your last gift-giving occasion? Select from your past orders to "Re-order" it again.
Sending an e-Gift Notice Notification Service
Need to send a Belated Birthday gift? Not sure if the Gift Card you're ordering will arrive to your loved one in time for the special occasion? Last-minute Christmas shopping? Here's the solution. Books By The Yard
Books By The Yard is a unique product that
Half Price Books offers to designers, retailers and individuals across the
country. It's approximately three linear feet of books for $20.00 plus tax and
shipping (if applicable). A discount is available for large quantity orders.
Four different categories of books are available. Categories of books available
are Reader's Digest Condensed Books, Reference Books, Mixed Books and Law
Books. Books
By The Yard services many industries and businesses with this unique
product, including Hotel & Hospitality, Interior Designers, Retail Display,

Educator Discount
As part of our commitment to education, Half Price Books offers
educators a 10% discount off their entire purchase in-stores year-round,
whether they’re buying something for the classroom or themselves! The
teacher/librarian discount will be offered to teachers or librarians who are
able to present current identification (a pay stub or ID card) that verifies
their status as a public or private school teacher (including college/university
teaching assistants) or a school or city librarian. Homeschoolers should
provide verification from their state or local homeschooling organization where

Literacy Partners
Half Price Books works together with its patrons to support
local and national literacy organizations. We believe that everyone should have

Half Pint Library
At Half Price Books, we believe in the nurturing power of
reading. That's why we began the Half Pint Library program in 1999. Thanks to
your help, we have provided more than 1.5 million books and created over 75
Half Pint Libraries in hospitals, community centers and special needs schools
across the nation. Each year during late winter/early spring, we host a book
drive. During the drive, we encourage our customers to donate new or gently
used children's books at any Half
Price Books location. HPB matches the donations received from the

DeleteCensorship.org
In conjunction with Banned Books Awareness Week, Half Price
Books launched it’s anti-censorship website DeleteCensorship.org back in 2006. Half Price Books developed the Delete Censorship website, which
is designed to celebrate U.S. First Amendment rights, as well as create
awareness about book banning and draw attention to existing censorship issues.
This site exists to celebrate literature of all kinds and to continue to ensure
that ideas remain accessible to all who want them. Half Price Books supports
the imaginative and courageous authors of all books, including those that open

The Texas Bookman
In 1983, Half Price Books established its wholesale division, The Texas
Bookman, to sell remainders. The Texas Bookman took its name from an
antiquarian bookstore bought out by Half Price Books. The Texas
Bookman also reprints books under the name Hackberry Press. The Texas
Bookman offers trade and scholarly remainders in the visual and
performing arts, literary studies, fiction, history, children's, crafts,
science, reference and nature. The Texas Bookman also offers quality modern
fiction, out-of-print, first edition books, cookbooks, art, antiques, and
collectibles. In October 2006, the wholesale division launched its own website
at TexasBookman.com to offer its complete inventory 24/7 to its worldwide customers.

1. How do you buy books and music?
All of our locations buy all types of printed and recorded
merchandise, all day every day. Just bring what you'd like to sell to a store
near you. We make cash offers while you wait, and our offers are for everything
you bring in, you don't have to take anything back! For more about selling to

2. Can I buy multiple Gift Cards?
Gift Cards in any quantity are available for purchase in HPB stores and online. Each Gift Card is redeemable for merchandise in-store. To purchase bulk orders of Gift Cards for corporate incentives or gifts, you can place your order online or contact our Gift Card Customer Service Hotline by phone at 1.866.615.2665.
3. What's your return policy?
Cash refunds and charge card credits on all merchandise* are
available within 7 days of purchase with receipt. Merchandise charged to a
credit card will be credited to your account. Exchange or store credit will be
issued for merchandise returned within 30 days with receipt. Cash refunds for
purchases made by check are available after twelve (12) business days, and are
then subject to the time limitations stated above. Please include original
packaging and price tag when making a return. Proper I.D. and phone number may
be required. We reserve the right to limit or decline refunds. Gift cards
cannot be returned for cash. Items purchased online must be returned through HPB Marketplace Customer Service.
*Software returns accepted within one month with
receipt for store credit only.
4. Do you sell books online?
As a convenience to our website visitors, you can search and
shop for books online. The HPB Marketplace offers an expansive selection of
new, used, out-of-print, and hard-to-find books, music, and movies, and an
unbeatable selection of textbooks. When you search using this feature, you are
searching some inventory of select Half Price Books retail stores as well as
more than 120 million items stocked by independent sellers from 45 countries
around the world. Please note: what inventory you see online does not represent
merchandise in our brick and mortar locations.
We do not offer store inventory search at this time, but we’re working on that.
We welcome you to call any one of our locations, and our helpful employees will
be happy to look for your book on our shelves. Leave your name and number with
them (if you don't want to listen to hold music) and they'll call you back,
take your information over the phone and either hold the item for your to
pick-up or send it directly to you.

6. How much do you pay for used stuff?
Determining the value of books and music isn't an exact science,
but there are primary factors we always consider when buying used merchandise
of any kind: condition, and supply and demand. Basically, our stores are going
to pay a higher percentage for books we see less often. Any book that's a
current bestseller is generally going to get the highest offers. Click here to

7. How can I sign up for the mailing list?
All customers who sign up for the Half Price Books mailing list
will be subscribed to receive occasional discount offers and coupons via

10. Can I search your inventory?
Our inventory changes daily (and even more frequently than that)
with new and used merchandise coming in and out of our stores constantly. And
every store is different, with a completely unique inventory from the next. At
this time we do not offer an inventory search, but we’re working being able to
offer you this service, one book at a time. In the meantime, we welcome you to
stop in store and browse the shelves. Our helpful staff will direct you to the
titles for which you're searching. Please feel free to call your neighborhood
HPB location to inquire about a specific title. Our friendly
booksellers will help you on your quest. Whether in person or over the phone,
we'll do the best we can to help you find a book, because after all, we're
booklovers too.
11. Are books really half price?
We strive to be a company that lives up to our name. With the
exception of rare collectibles, out-of-print merchandise or specially priced
promotional items, all of our books are sold for half the publisher's price or

12. Do you sell HPB T-Shirts?
We do sell some HPB T-Shirts and other gear through our Half Price Books CafePress Shop. Additionally, our Flagship store in Dallas TX, North Lamar location in Austin TX, and stores in Louisville and Lexington, KY have some limited-edition HPB tees available for sale while supplies last.
