Overview

After having escaped in his early 20s from the slavery he was born into, Douglass wrote a memoir of his experience entitled The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass. The book became a bestseller and was a major influence on the abolitionist movement. My Bondage and My Freedom followed it and depicts in greater detail his journey to freeedom, reinforcing the fact that Douglass was an excellent writer and orator. Clothbound with decorative stamping and gilt letters on the spine. In astonishingly good condition—some minor stains on the cover and wear and chips on the edges. Some light spotting and staining to individual pages, but generally the paper is bright and strong. The binding is solid and tissue guards are intact. The title page has an embossed stamp from Moore, Wilstach, Keys & Co, a bookseller/publisher out of Cincinnati.
