Carthage, Texas 1996. Lovable mortician Bernie Tiede shoots cantankerous but wealthy widow Marjorie Nugent. And yet...the townspeople still love him! Directed by Richard Linklater, this off-beat, too-absurd-to-be-true comedy is just that, completely real, down to the cameo interviews from actual Carthage townspeople. As a native East Texan, this movie rings true to form and has a special place in my heart.
People of a small, rural Texas town are shocked to discover that affluent widow Marjorie Nugent, who has not been seen for sometime, is in fact dead and the man accused of her murder is the town's most beloved resident, assistant funeral director Bernie Tiede.
