Enigma Tales takes us into the mind of one of the best characters in all of Star Trek, Elim Garak. The fascinating Cardassian tailor from Deep Space Nine takes center stage in this novel, serving as the head of the Cardassian Union and continuing the process of rebuilding after the Dominion War. Author Una McCormack has written exceptional stories about the Cardassians before (see The Never-Ending Sacrifice), and she makes lightning strike twice in Enigma Tales. With the opportunity to write for Garak, McCormack dives deep into the moral complexities of the character, exploring themes like redemption, forgiveness, vengeance. It's a deep cut in Star Trek literature, but Enigma Tales is something truly fresh, original, and engaging. If you enjoy Deep Space Nine, this novel comes highly recommended.
Dr. Katherine Pulaski and Dr. Peter Alden, while on Cardassia Prime, find themselves at odds with Elim Garak, who is running for head of the Cardassian Union, and are drawn into a deadly game as other front-runners vie for the position. Original.
