Are you a wine fan? Or maybe a true crime fan? This book marries the two in a rollicking tale through the world of very high-end wine auctions and wine counterfeiting. This is a world that most of us can only dream of millionaires and billionaires bidding on very old and collectible wines that can sell for thousands of dollars a bottle. How did Rudy Kurniawan ingratiate himself into the upper-class world of these men who will hunt the world for that rare bottle of La Tache (just type La Tache into Google and see what kind of prices pop up)? Why did people trust that the rare bottles he served them were authentic? Where did he find all these rare treasures (turns out he was probably making them in his kitchen). This is a fascinating account of conned billionaires and questionable auctions. It also includes some scrumptious descriptions of very old wine as well as an interesting history of the Burgundy region of France and some of the oldest wineries. Highly recommended especially if you are interested in vino.
In a shocking true crime story, a con man, blessed with the gift of a discerning palate and a knack for tracking down impossibly hard-to-find bottles, reigns as a purveyor of the last century?s most storied vintages until the truth comes out and his world comes spectacularly crashing down.
