Necesidad De Crecimiento Personal: Notas Sobre Las 14 Necesidades De Virginia Henderson


La tarea que ocupa el presente libro consiste en desarrollar, desde un punto de vista multidisciplinar, el modelo de Necesidades Basicas descrito por Virginia Henderson, y mas concretamente el de la doceava necesidad (Crecimiento Personal). Virginia Henderson, enfermera norteamericana nacida en 1897, forjo su interes por la profesion durante la I Guerra Mundial, dedicando gran parte de su carrera profesional, en la Universidad, a la ensenanza e investigacion en materias relacionada con la enfermeria. Su modelo parte de una serie de supuestos teoricos tales como: "Cada individuo es una totalidad compleja que requiere satisfacer necesidades fundamentales." De el se podria extraer la definicion del propio ser humano como un ser biopsicosocial que necesita satisfacer primero unas necesidades basicas para asi poder continuar satisfaciendo otras superiores1.En este punto seria interesante senalar que la necesidad de crecimiento personal pertenece a las de orden superior, al ser totalmente necesario que las que le preceden esten satisfechas y asi poder llegar a centrarnos en la persona que este a nuestro cargo, es decir: el paciente. Para ponernos en antecedentes sobre la teoria de Virginia Henderson, se hace imprescindible hablar tambien de la teoria motivacional de Abraham Maslow y su Jerarquia de las Necesidades Humanas; considerando la motivacion, siempre que se lleguen a satisfacer cinco necesidades, unas de orden inferior y otras de orden superior, siguiendo un orden jerarquico. En ella se afirma que los individuos se encuentran en constante estado de motivacion, ya que cuando satisfacen un deseo surge uno nuevo mas elevado que el anterior. Por lo tanto, la persona no pasara a un nivel superior en la piramide si los niveles inferiores no estan completamente satisfechos (Vease en Anexo 1)2. En la base de la piramide de Maslow aparecen las necesidades fisiologicas seguidas de las de: seguridad, afiliacion, reconocimiento y por ultimo las de autorrealizacion. Siendo en la cuspide donde se podria englobar la necesidad de Crecimiento Personal, descrita en el modelo teorico de Henderson, que ocupa este volumen y engloba diversos conceptos que se desarrollaran en el grueso del libro, como son: toma de decisiones, autoestima, manejo de las emociones y resiliencia, entre otros.
