If you love pop culture (especially 1980s pop culture) or video games, Ready Player One will be right up your alley. RPO takes place in the not so distant future and where the internet has evolved into a virtual reality system called OASIS. You go to school, work, meet new people all by plugging into the system. The book follows the story of Wade Watts, a poor kid using OASIS to fill his time with 1980s pop culture, video games and most importantly, hunting for three keys left inside OASIS by its creator, James Halliday. Millions of people around the world dream of finding the keys because the first person to do so will inherit Halliday's vast fortune. The book is a super fun read, especially for anyone who loves the 1980s. You'll be glued to the page trying to figure out all the clues along with Wade. I read it on vacation and could not put it down! It is slightly predictable at some points, but for the most part it is imaginative, exciting and just an all around fun book to read. Check it out when you can, you won't be disappointed!
At once wildly original and stuffed with irresistible nostalgia, a spectacularly genre-busting, ambitious, and charming debut that is part quest, part love story, and part virtual space opera set in a universe where spell-slinging mages battle giant Japanese robots and flying DeLoreans.
