This was the first YA novel I had read in awhile, and it really surprised me. The plot was captivating from the beginning, when you're thrown into Amani's world head first. Amani proves to be a likable and sympathetic main character as she runs away from the life she's known, following the wiles of a young handsome bandit. As their story progresses, more twists and turns arrive, keeping Amani on her toes, and she fights for her life... and maybe discovers a new one she never knew she could have. It usually takes me awhile to read any book, but Rebel of the Sands kept me reading, and I had to go and buy the sequel immediately after finishing it.
Desperate to leave the dead-end town of Dustwalk, Amani meets Jin, the mysterious rebel running from the Sultan's army and she unlocks a powerful truth about the desert nation of Miraji...and herself.
