RISEN details the journey of a Roman Centurion (Joseph Fiennes) when he is assigned by Pontius Pilate (Colin Firth) to put an end to problems surrounding the crucifixion of Yeshua. Entombing the body would seem to end the controversy, but Pilate fears the body will be stolen by Yeshua's followers to make it appear that the rabbi's prophecy of rising from the dead in three days was fulfilled. When the body disappears anyway, the Roman is sent on a mission to recover the body. What he finds will change his life forever. The intriguing religious film is low key and backs away from proselytizing. Shot in Spain, director Kevin Reynolds (WATERWORLD, ROBIN HOOD PRINCE OF THIEVES) achieves a semi-epic look. Somewhat reminiscent of the Keith Carradine film THE INQUIRY (1987).
In the year 33 A.D., a Roman leader attempts to find the missing body of an executed Jew who has supposedly risen from the dead.
