Bessel Van der Kolk's work with trauma is both enlightening and encouraging, despite discussing a very difficult, heavy topic. This book is a bestseller for good reason. It has all the science and research of a textbook, but reads easily and is explained in layman's terms. This book explores the physiological effects of trauma on the body and different treatments that have been proven to be effective. The new research is both compelling and exciting in a way that brings hope to the reader, especially if they have experienced trauma themselves. This book changed the way I personally view trauma, and I would highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in learning more!
A forefront expert on traumatic stress outlines his own take on healing, explaining how traumatic stress affects brain processes and how to use innovative treatments to reactivate the mind's abilities to trust, engage others and experience pleasure.
