Maybe not the first title you'll want to turn to for holiday cheer, but a timely read nonetheless. Jonathan Franzen's National Book Award winner is a beautifully conceived, and powerfully written modern masterpiece. The story concerns the Lambert family and a mother's desire to have one last family Christmas in their hometown of St. Jude, Missouri (a fictionalized St Louis). It's hard to say much of anything about this book that hasn't already been said, so just read it.
