Dr. Brook defines caloric density as the number of calories contained in a particular food divided by its weight. For example, chocolate pudding has a calorie density of 1.3. One-half cup contains 150 calories and weighs 113 grams, and 150 calories divided by 113 grams equals 1.3. If you eat foods with low caloric density, you will lose weight. The lower its caloric density, the more a food helps you lose weight. If you eat high caloric density foods, you ll gain weight. Dr. Brook has provided caloric density charts in the book for practically every food in the American diet.THE GOLDEN GATE DIET also provides a delicious meal plan based upon an intake of 1,200 calories a day, which, for most people, results in a constant and safe weight loss of 1-2 pounds per week.
