In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit. Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: it was a hobbit-hole, and that means comfort. The Hobbit follows Bilbo Baggins an unassuming little fellow who never had any adventure and never wanted it, thank you very much. As he travels with Thorin Oakenshield and company to reclaim their home under the Lonely Mountain he discovers that he is capable of many more things than he ever thought possible. This has been my favorite book since I was a child and I urge everyone to read it over watching the movie.
The prequel to the epic fantasy saga The Lord of the Rings chronicles the adventures of the inhabitants of Middle-earth and of Bilbo Baggins, the hobbit who brought home to The Shire the One Ring of Power. Reissue.
