Enter Elsie, in travelling dress, with umbrella, etc. Elsie.--Dear me! how tiresome papa is to keep me waiting like this. We were to start at three, and here it is nearly five minutes past, and he's not ready! I suppose he's fussing over the luggage still. We shall miss the train, I'm certain. It is too provoking! Papa, is that you? Enter Emma, with bag and shawls. Emma.--No, Miss H'Elsie, it's me. The Capting is still a-scolding of James in the 'all, for doing up the boxes wrong. Elsie.--I wish you would say " Captain," Emma. I have told you so ever so often. There is no " g " in Captain. What would you think of me, if I called you h'Emma? Emma.--Which h'F m sure, Miss h'Elsie, 'tis a very good name. Aside. And when James says it, it sounds 'eavenly. Elsie.--I hope you have packed my things all right, Emma; and left my blue dress and the white one, and the pink polonaise and the brown jacket, and my lace hat, all on the top, so that you can get at them easily, when I want them? Emma.--Well, Miss, they ain't exactly all on the top, but I think they're near enough. Aside. And if she thinks she going to wear them on board of that nasty yacht, I'm sure she's mistaken! I know / shan't be able to stir a finger to get them out for her. I wish we wasn't going. I 'ate the sea! It goes on worritting up and down, and there's never no rest for the sole of one's foot the 'ole time. I call it a tempting of Providence to wenture on board of a boat at all, I do! But there, if she goes, I must go, too, or lose my place. We're going to Cornwall, this time, that's one consolation. James's mother lives down there somewhere; and he's told me what she's like in case I should meet her--a little, ...
