Gibson is always mind bending. I must admit, I'll have to read this again to catch all of his nuances. He's the writer for the brilliant reader. Gamers, time travel, robots... what more could you want? I found it one of his more accessible novels. The sequel came out in January 2020.
His first sci-fi novel since 1999, The Peripheral is Gibson at his best. The setting really stands out as the strong point in this novel. He again creates not only a world that is bizarre and outlandish, but also one that is very easy to see in our own future. In his characteristic style, Gibson only reveals the world in bits and pieces -- first time readers may find themselves confused! As more is revealed, however, the dramatic events and fleshed-out characters begin to fit together in a very satisfying way. The first few chapters may feel a little daunting if this is your first Gibson novel, but the suspense and lightning-fast action sequences will keep you turning the pages until the ultimately satisfying climax.
