Overview

This true crime saga--with an eccentric Southern backdrop--introduces the reader to the story of a murder in a crumbling Louisville mansion and the decades of secrets and corruption that live within the old house's walls.

On June 17, 2010, in the basement of Victorian mansion in Old Louisville, police discover the body of a man stuffed into a storage container and buried in the old wine cellar. James Carroll was shot and stabbed about six months prior to the discovery of his body. The owner of the house, Jeffrey Mundt, and his boyfriend, Joseph Banis, point the finger at each other in what becomes known as The Pink Triangle Murder.

On the surface, this Louisville murder looks like a crime of passion, a love tryst gone wrong in a creepy mansion with plenty of secrets. But as author David Dominé tries to uncover what happened, a deeper story emerges: the struggle between hope for a better future on the one hand--and intense, lavish greed on the other.

As the court testimony devolves into he-said/he-said contradictions, David draws on the confidences of eccentric neighbors, drag queens, and other acquaintances within Old Louisville's vibrant LGBTQ community to piece together the details of the case. In the process, he begins to untangle and solve this sordid mystery--as well as to uncover the many past lives of the mansion itself.
