Rare complete Atlas of 1855 focusing on the maps of the U.S. and it territories of the time in VG- condition. First DeSilver edition of Mitchell’s Universal Atlas. Contains 71 hand colored maps, charts and city plan with new maps of Nebraska, Kansas, New Mexico and the Indian Territories and map of the Gold Region of California. 17 x 14 in with red half morocco and green marbled boards, morocco label with title in gilt on front cover. All pages present and well attached with Front endpaper being the only loose page. Minor age spotting on pages with water damage along the edges of most pages. Binding is still tight and square. Rubbing and bumping of covers and edges of covers and spine. Boards beginning to be exposed along edges.
