Overview

"Pompeiana:The Topography, Edifices, and Ornaments of Pompeii" by Sir William Gell and John P. Gandy. Printed by Rodwell and Martin in 1819 in London. Sir William Gell, a British archaeologist and illustrator, is best known for his published topographical illustrations of various archaeological digs, most noteably at Pompeii and Troy. John Peter Gandy was also a British architect who served as a member of parliament from 1847 to 1848. This hardcover copy is bound in burgundy leather with very minor signs of wear on the front cover, back cover, and spine. Inside, the pages have yellowed and stiffened, but does not affect readability. The gold gilted edges are still somewhat visable, but have mostly faded due to the age of the book.
