Overview

Originally published in Marietta, OH by S.A. Mulliken, who specialized in similar guides. In addition to eugenics, this text is introduced as a health and parenting manual, primarily for women, that focuses on temperance and abstinence. Eight color plates, more than 80 black-and-white illustrations, 20 medical diagrams. Eugenics is a pseudoscientific belief that human populations can be improved through selective breeding by controlling who is allowed to reproduce, often based on perceived desirable traits and eliminating those deemed undesirable; essentially attempting to manipulate the genetic makeup of a population through social policies. It is a philosophy that was later instituted by the Nazi party during World War II. HPB offers this title purely as an item of scholarly, historical and/or sociological interest.
