Before being fully declassified in 2011, this set of books was one of very few resources the public had that shined a light on governmental missteps and malicious actions taken during the Vietnam War era. Volume 1 starts in the 1940's with how the end of world war 2 shaped United States foreign policy. Volumes 2 and 3 document U.S. trade and peace policy that pushed the nation towards southeast Asia. Volume 4 wraps up with military escalation on Vietnamese soil. This edition starts with an introduction by Senator Mike Gravel. Most known for a popular yet unsuccessful attempt to end the draft. He later submitted the Pentagon Papers for the public records in 1971. Volume 1 has some light damage to the top spine part of the dust jacket. Volume 3 has a tear on the top spine of the dust jacket (1 inch). Volume 4 has a similar tear on the spine and on the bottom of the back cover. The dust jackets have been photographed without mylar protective covers, but will be included on purchase.
