In the 12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos, by Jordan Peterson, we learn about hierarchies older than trees, what it means to tell the truth and how to effectively put a toddler down for a nap. Through odd chapter titles and real life experiences, Peterson teaches us about life in all of its order and chaos and joy and suffering. Each chapter or "rule" covers an aspect of life which Peterson then expounds upon. Calling forth analogies and metaphors from the Bible to the Simpsons, each rule is unique. Each new rule seems cryptic and strange at first. It's unclear how Peterson is going to tie it all back together, which he does flawlessly every time. The advice he offers is relatable and down to earth. It clicks in your mind in a way that feels like it was always there, but you just didn't realize it.
