Sierra S. - 5 years 5 months agoA retelling of the classic beauty and the beast story that I can guarantee you've never read before. The story is exciting and it's a pretty quick read. I PROMISE you won't see this plot twist coming

La Belle et la Bte retelling
Katie G. - 5 years 7 months agoA Curse So Dark and Lonely is a modern reimagining of Beauty and the Beast with a much more sinister theme. In this version, the Prince, Rhen, is forced to repeat his quest to find love over and over each season. Each season's end comes at terrible cost as the Beast causes more and more bloodshed each time. However, after three-hundred seasons, this season will officially be the very last one. Harper, the Belle, is an eighteen-year-old from DC, where she's had a hard life, living with her mother who has cancer(they cant afford medical treatment), and a brother who is forced to work for crime lords because their father left his family in so much debt. Rhen, the Beast, is cursed to turn into a different beast and kills whatever is in his way when a girl doesnt fall in love with him each season. In this reimaging we get to see Harper decide if she wants to save a kingdom or her family and we get to see Rhen decide if he is worth saving. This was highly entertaining and lots of fun for a fan of fairy tale retellings.

Archaic yet so stellar!
Anika M. - 6 years 1 month agoThis story was absolutely, positively, out-of-this-world (quite literally). The characters in this book were so profoundly represented and I loved the interactions between each of them (especially Harper and Grey at times). The different themes of darkness, fear, and sorrow commonly seen in the original tale of Beauty and the Beast are so well-written here that I hardly found myself trying to compare the two stories - this retelling was so original and intricately-woven together that I found myself thirsting for more after each chapter. It broke my heart at times and it made me feel so wholesome at other times, this book was a rollercoaster of a ride and I loved every second of it so much. The ending was not to my satisfaction so I did end up pouting a little in the end, but the rest of the story was so awesome it almost made up for what it was lacking with a finale to the first book. I'm very much looking forward to reading the rest of the books in this series. Fans of any fairy tale retellings fantasy, or romance will love and cherish this book so much. I seriously recommend picking it up!

Missed the mark #SummerReading
Sarah U. - 6 years 4 months agoI feel like the odd one out here. I was so disappointed by this book. I LOVE Beauty and the Beast retellings and I was pumped (for the sake of representation) to find out that one of the main characters had CP. This story could have been amazing, but truthfully the book fell so flat. The CP and one black character were thrown in simply for "diversity", but I was not convinced of its authenticity. You could tell it was just tokenism. I think that 12 or 13 year-old Sarah might have been into this book, but adult Sarah just couldn't buy into it. #SummerReading
