In American Gods, Neil Gaiman takes the reader on such an interesting journey across America. It's old world gods against new world gods, and our poor protagonist is caught in the middle. I could go on and on about how amazing this book is, but what really makes this book special is that all of the locations in the book are real places. No matter how wacky or absurd these places sound, they are in fact real places.
HPB Staff ReviewThe concept of old gods from various world mythologies trying to keep their hold of people's belief versus new gods that people don't think about but use and interact with everyday is pretty amazing. New gods being TV, Cellular phones, basically Technology in general. The central character, Shadow Moon, getting caught up in the middle of this war and the various gods (old and new) vying for his soul makes for an interesting read.
HPB Staff ReviewA very strange and dark fantasy that holds your attention all the way to the end. Neil Gaiman's characters are always interesting flawed people, but that makes them seem more relatable and endearing. It shows the light and the dark sides of humans and gods which you won't always get in other stories. Love that he used well-known gods, but really enjoyed reading about forgotten ones (or lesser known in America).
