Overview

George Orwell's timeless and timely allegorical novel--a scathing satire on a downtrodden society's blind march towards totalitarianism.

"All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others."

A farm is taken over by its overworked, mistreated animals. With flaming idealism and stirring slogans, they set out to create a paradise of progress, justice, and equality. Thus the stage is set for one of the most telling satiric fables ever penned--a razor-edged fairy tale for grown-ups that records the evolution from revolution against tyranny to a totalitarianism just as terrible.

When Animal Farm was first published, Stalinist Russia was seen as its target. Today it is devastatingly clear that wherever and whenever freedom is attacked, under whatever banner, the cutting clarity and savage comedy of George Orwell's masterpiece have a meaning and message still ferociously fresh.

  • Darkly Funny and Important

This really blew my mind as a teenager –– a darkly funny satire that holds up with age and applies across contexts. A must in understanding the workings of power.

  • Farm animals rebel against control to develop their own form of government

    irene s. - 5 years 10 months ago

#BannedBooks I read this book years ago and found it disturbing. Now, I have to say, I did not really like it but I can see its significance. the idea of rebellion and escaping a controlled society is a concept that is the focus of this story. Farm animals are fad up in being controlled by the farmer and want to rebel. they want to create their own government and be in control of themselves. But with all situations like this, there is one rotten animal who will not play fair and wants complete control. Is their plan for a new government better then what they had before? And, why do I think of Disney when I think if this story? Perhaps the farm animals are symbolic of government unrest among the people especially now as a nation divided and the presidential election coming up this November.

After my teacher said the inspiration of this book from his time at the slaughterhouses of Chicago, I had to read this. Certainly made me question a lot of things. This book will certainly make you think about things.

Really good book. I would recommend to read this. Orwell has a very interesting way of getting his views and thoughts across in this book which I absolutely loved.
