Overview

"This book is epic." --Cosmopolitan
"A hopeful and moving love story." --Publishers Weekly

Fangirl meets Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda in this "sensitive and complex" (BCCB) coming-of-age novel from New York Times bestselling author Christina Lauren about two boys who fall in love in a writing class--one from a progressive family and the other from a conservative religious community.

Three years ago, Tanner Scott's family relocated from California to Utah, a move that nudged the bisexual teen temporarily back into the closet. Now, with one semester of high school to go, and no obstacles between him and out-of-state college freedom, Tanner plans to coast through his remaining classes and clear out of Utah.

But when his best friend Autumn dares him to take Provo High's prestigious Seminar--where honor roll students diligently toil to draft a book in a semester--Tanner can't resist going against his better judgment and having a go, if only to prove to Autumn how silly the whole thing is. Writing a book in four months sounds simple. Four months is an eternity.

It turns out, Tanner is only partly right: four months is a long time. After all, it takes only one second for him to notice Sebastian Brother, the Mormon prodigy who sold his own Seminar novel the year before and who now mentors the class. And it takes less than a month for Tanner to fall completely in love with him.

  • Funny, heartwarming and sweet

To start off, I read this book in one day because I couldn’t put it down. I was hooked from the very first chapter. It was really what I needed in these strange, uncertain times. It was nice to be able to completely lose myself in another world, and the writing had just enough humor to keep the heavy subject matter from getting too heavy. Overall, this novel was funny, heartwarming, sweet, romantic and emotional. I highly recommend it. #SummerReading

  • The title is perfect for the book. It plays along with the first person point of view and what the main character is experiencing.

This book is now and will forever be on my favorite books list. It goes so far into how it feels to be LGBTQ+ in a conservative town that doesn't approve. The relationship between the two main characters is electrifying and captures your attention immediately. The author explores feelings, relationships, religion, and love. Lauren really embraces the question, does love trump your beliefs? You will be entranced from page 1 all the way to the acknowledgments. #SummerReading

  • Pretty good

I loved this book and it’s depiction of Mormonism and religion. However, Tanner and Autumn’s friendship didn’t really hit me like how I think it was supposed to and overall their dynamic was weird.
