Big Little Lies is a great summer read! It will capture your interest the minute you pick it up. From beginning to end Moriarty weaves a tale of mystery centered around a prestigious kindergarten and the badly behaved parents of the students. The story mainly follows three women in particular who are the catalysts for the tragedy that takes place. Who was killed? Was it murder or just an accident? These are some of the questions you will ask as you read this book. The way Moriarty writes this story makes it impossible to put the book down. You will desperately want to figure out what led to the tragedy. The end of this book will blow your mind (unless you are smarter than me and figure everything out before the end). After finishing this book, I immediately bought another of hers because this one was so engaging that I wanted more of her stories.
HPB Staff ReviewThat's the question that you'll be asking the entire time you spend reading Big Little Lies. This book is definitely a twist on the typical mystery novel. It all starts at Perriwee Primary School with three women, Celeste, Jane and Madeline, who have kids all starting kindergarten together. These moms all become friends and put on brave fronts to each other, but as the novel continues the reader finds out that there's a lot of pain underneath - domestic violence, abuse and difficult family situations. Big Little Lies will keep you up late into the night, voraciously reading to find out who was murdered that fateful Trivia Night.
HPB Staff ReviewThis book was exciting from beginning to end. The characters are all great and each had their own story to tell. Mystery, murder, romance, drama, soccer moms -- this book has it all! #springpicks
Liane Moriarty has created a witty and intense story about a group of mothers and their complicated lives of raising a family. At first glance, it seems like the moms lead great lives, but readers learn that the moms have secrets of their own. The book is centered around three moms: Madeline, Celeste, and Jane each bringing their own unique characteristics and lies to the table. Moriarty does a great job of writing from each mom's perspective in third person. Big Little Lies starts out with a tease about the ending of the book, which makes readers never want to put the book down. Once readers reach the conclusion, they are rewarded with a wonderfully crafted twist and intense ending to the book. The novel follows the events created by the bad-decision making of the parents that lead to the crime that occurs at the end of the book. The only complaint that I have is that I would have liked more dialogue in the story. This book is perfect for you if you are interested in mysteries and strong female characters. #SummerReading
A web of lies bonds a group of friends and surrounding community causes hurt, dismay and tragedy. Moriarty paints a picture of moms who are all striving for perfection - but who all know they are telling lies or keeping deep dark secrets to be able to continue living. #SummerReading
