Big Little Lies is a great summer read! It will capture your interest the minute you pick it up. From beginning to end Moriarty weaves a tale of mystery centered around a prestigious kindergarten and the badly behaved parents of the students. The story mainly follows three women in particular who are the catalysts for the tragedy that takes place. Who was killed? Was it murder or just an accident? These are some of the questions you will ask as you read this book. The way Moriarty writes this story makes it impossible to put the book down. You will desperately want to figure out what led to the tragedy. The end of this book will blow your mind (unless you are smarter than me and figure everything out before the end). After finishing this book, I immediately bought another of hers because this one was so engaging that I wanted more of her stories.
HPB Staff ReviewThat's the question that you'll be asking the entire time you spend reading Big Little Lies. This book is definitely a twist on the typical mystery novel. It all starts at Perriwee Primary School with three women, Celeste, Jane and Madeline, who have kids all starting kindergarten together. These moms all become friends and put on brave fronts to each other, but as the novel continues the reader finds out that there's a lot of pain underneath - domestic violence, abuse and difficult family situations. Big Little Lies will keep you up late into the night, voraciously reading to find out who was murdered that fateful Trivia Night.
HPB Staff ReviewThis is the first book I've read by Liane Moriarty, and I completely understand the hype around this author now. I loved this book! The characters are rich and relatable- who knew PTA could be this interesting? The story opens with the investigation of a murder, told through little bits of eyewitness testimony, and moves backwards from there. The back story is rich with character development and plot twists, ending up at the scene of the murder where (gasp!) you, the reader, finally find out who is the victim. But are they really a victim after all you've discovered along the way? Read this book! You won't be disappointed. As for me, I'm off to read another one of Moriarty's books, "Truly Madly Guilty." I can't wait!
