I somehow missed reading this as a kid, but the title was familiar. Wanting a light read, I picked it up. I enjoyed reading about the innocent fun and developing friendship between Leslie and Jesse. Then towards the end of the book, things got real...real fast. I don't want to spoil this for anyone. As an adult, it was an amazing book. I'm not sure it's something I would read to a very young child, but it is a book I would approve of for a child of nine or ten to read. It deals with hard topics (death) and although we would like to protect children from feeling that particular pain for as long as possible, we can't. Death comes. Either it's a grand-parent, a dog, a friend, a parent...it will come. Everyone will have to face that pain at some point, and for a child, it might help to read that others might share the emotions that they feel...pain, anger, confusion. I'm glad I read it as an adult. Still made me cry though. #BannedBook
This book is both amazing and heart wrenching at the exact same time. The friendship between Jess and Leslie is sweet and I've always appreciated how Katherine Paterson shows kids that a boy and a girl can be friends without it becoming more. You don't see much of that in the book world today. Since I myself hate spoilers I won't say why its so heartbreaking but just make sure to have some tissues on hand. Overall Bridge to Terabithia teaches us that life can be painful and it's not always going to make sense but in the end we just have to keep going and enjoying the ride while it lasts. The movie adaptation does a admirable job and is worth looking into after you finish. Also, I was shocked when I found out that Bridge to Terabithia was banned, mainly due to some swearing, and in addition Atheism. (Which doesn't really make sense but ok?) #BannedBook
I was not prepared for the sad part but the book was good. #RequiredReading
Bridge to Terabithia is full of humor, drama, adventure, and tragedy. My favorite characters in the book are Jess and Leslie because they are the main characters of the book also the most seen in the book and the movie. After I read how interesting the book was I also watched the movie. My favorite part was when at the end of the book Jess makes his sister May Belle the queen of Terabithia. Surprisingly Leslie dies while Jess is at Ms.Edmuns' house. It is so sad that she dies because Leslie is one of my favorite characters. I would recommend this book to anyone because anyone can have their own imaginary kingdom.
Wow! Just wow! This book touched a spot in my heart I didn't know was there! I think this book is one of my all time favs! The author put good and sad in this book, and it worked! Jess Aarons is a young boy who wants to win a race. He trained all summer to run super fast and beat the other kids. However, his practicing doesn't pay off, and he gets beaten instead by a girl from his class. Jess is super mad, but it turns out that Leslie was the one for him. They become best friends and Leslie show Jess Terabithia, a made up place for the two to have fictional adventures. But one day tragedy strikes, and Jess is devastated...... #SummerReading #SummerReading
