This is the first book about the turn of the 19th-20th century Egyptian archaeology team of Amelia Peabody and Radcliffe Emerson. I have accumulated most of my Egyptology knowledge in these very entertaining books by Elizabeth Peters -- real-life Egyptologist Barbara Mertz. #SummerReading

  • The crocodile and other animals can be symbols of evil or trust.

The Egyptian setting is unique. I learned much about this ancient civilization. Amelia Peabody is a strong, independent woman who is’t afraid to offer her opinions. I less liked Radcliffe Emerson, fellow archeologist and future husband. In the next book they’re married and have a son. It will be interesting to see if their sarcasm toward each other softens.

  • Amelia Peabody a Victorian feminist.

I just found this series by Elizabeth Peters and I am making my way through all of the books. This is an adventure with Amelia Peabody and her travels through Egypt in the Victorian era. The stories are romantic and funny.
