Dataclysm by Christian Rudder was an interesting book to read. Rudder was a co-founder of OKCupid a dating app that uses personal information to match people with someone who would be a good match with them. His book takes large scale numbers due to social media and dating apps and turns them into bite sized chucks of information that we can interpret and learn from. It was a really cool to see who we are, what makes us different and what brings us together.
HPB Staff ReviewDataclysm offers a glimpse into the vast, exponentially growing oceans of information being amassed every day in the digital realm. In the last 30 years or so, an unprecedented system of data collection began as the internet grew in processing power and became virtually ubiquitous in our lives. This book has a great deal of fun playing with the reams of data now available, examining society on a grand scale while providing some unexpected insights into human nature. A frequently hilarious, thought-provoking look at the implications of the modern world through the lens of Big Data.
