I connected with both the heroine in the story and the dragon she lives with. With the princess who rejects traditional roles and the dragon who scoffs humans' gender-specific roles, this was a great inspiration for a young girl who wants to grow up and choose the life she wants to live rather than being told what she can and cannot do. It's funny and daring!
HPB Staff ReviewBeing a princess isn't for everyone. Meet Princess Cimorene. With her jet black braids and unusual interests - fencing, cooking, and magic, just to name a few - this princess was not one for being rescued. Threatened with the prospect of marriage to a completely useless prince, Princess Cimorene takes matters into her own hands. With the advice of a talking frog and a can-do attitude, Princess Cimorene went out and got herself a perfectly respectable job that not even her parents could frown on... as the dragon Kazul's princess. Now, this plucky princess has her hands full with cooking, cleaning, sorting treasure, and straightening the library. That's not even mentioning enchanted princes, unwanted rescuers, and oily wizards. But nothing is ever too much for Princess Cimorene. With her friends, her wits, and plenty of buckets of soapy water with lemon juice, this princess shows that "simply not done" simply does not apply. Full of adventure, laughs, and plenty of interesting characters, this book - no, this series (oh yes, she has many more adventures) - will have you giggling on your lunch break and wondering why the Grimm Brothers didn't think of these things in the first place.
HPB Staff ReviewI love this book. It was one of the first books I read as a child where the main female character was level headed, smart, and practical. I love Cimorene’s relationship with Kazul, the mutual respect and care. I only wish there were more stories from the enchanted forest #SpringPicks
I thought the book was amazing. a princess that didn't want to be rescued? how amazing. normally, all princesses want is their, "knight in shining armor". well, it's good that this series of books shows that not all princesses are prim and proper. It's a good book in a good series. i recommend it to anyone who absolutely loved Harry Potter. #SummerReading
