Overview

The first book in Lauren Oliver's New York Times bestselling trilogy about forbidden love, revolution, and the power to choose.

In an alternate United States, love has been declared a dangerous disease, and the government forces everyone who reaches eighteen to have a procedure called the Cure. Living with her aunt, uncle, and cousins in Portland, Maine, Lena Haloway is very much looking forward to being cured and living a safe, predictable life. She watched love destroy her mother and isn't about to make the same mistake.

But with ninety-five days left until her treatment, Lena meets enigmatic Alex, a boy from the Wilds who lives under the government's radar. What will happen if they do the unthinkable and fall in love?

If you have read and enjoy any of the following Young Adult trilogies/sagas, you will enjoy this book/trilogy: "The Hunger Games," "Divergent," "Matched," or "The Giver." Furthermore, if you enjoy any dystopian world you will be enveloped by this book. Oliver's beautiful, intricate, and vibrant writing portrays, main character, Lena Haloway as content in her safe, government-managed society. In the government-managed society, both significant others and careers are chosen, at the age of 18, for each individual; this is also the time that each person is "cured" of "deliria," or love. Lena is ready and willing and confident that her government knows what is best for her, and she has never felt love before...the thought of it makes her uncomfortable, that is, until 95 days before her curewhen Lena meets Alex.
