  • Heavy and depressing

    Mauricio C. - 6 years 5 months ago

Dirt is so bleak, so dense, thick, heavy, and well, depressing, that it’s very hard to listen to without feeling a bit disturbed and down. It’s definitely a wild ride. Dark, self-hatred and have I already mentioned depressing? Its blend of grunge and doom metal was pretty original back in the day and this album is classified more often than not as one of the grunge movement must-haves. I totally recognize it’s virtues and I guess I will recommend it to everyone who wasn’t that familiar with that omnipresent movement and want to check out one of the heaviest and darkest albums of that time. I know a lot of people who hold on high esteem this album. For me, it’s too same sounding and long that when I get around track 8 or 9, I feel a bit tired and I can’t pay enough attention to the remaining tracks. I get this exact feeling when I listen to Superunknown. Still, “Rain When I Die” is without a doubt one of my favorite tracks from the genre and it is a song that encapsulates perfectly well all the virtues of this album. And since it’s only track 3, it comes in the exact moment to be fully appreciated. Further listening: Black Sabbath - Paranoid
