    The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse are now three, as Death sets out on a mission of redemption and retribution! Extrapolated from an alternate history wherein the Civil War was ended by the influence of a Second Book of Revelation and the mysterious Tunguska explosion of 1908 happened above Kansas rather than Siberia, Death and his companions must stop the other three Horsemen and their cabal of high-ranking conspirators from immanentizing the eschaton! Full of fascinatingly cryptic world-building and wry, pessimistic humor, this series reads like a mash-up of Firefly, the Stand, and Game of Thrones. Jonathan Hickman has honed his talent with twist-filled plots and heady sci-fi concepts on Marvel comics like "Infinity" and "Secret Wars", but this creator-owned series from Image feels like his magnum opus. Nick Dragotta's kinetic artwork leaps off the page, never losing sight of the characters while conveying the apocalyptic intrigues of the setting with clarity. A deep and heady read, "East of West" is set to wrap next year, making now a great time to catch up.
