Overview

When a savage creature known only as the Adversary conquered the fabled lands of legends and fairy tales, all of the infamous inhabitants of folklore were forced into exile.

Disguised among the normal citizens of modern-day New York, these magical characters created their own secret society-within an exclusive luxury apartment building on Manhattan's Upper West Side-called Fabletown. But when Snow White's party-girl sister, Rose Red, is apparently murdered, it is up to Bigby, Fabletown's sheriff, and a reformed and pardoned Big Bad Wolf, to determine if the culprit is Bluebeard, Rose's ex-lover and notorious wife killer, or Jack, her current live-in boyfriend and former beanstalk-climber.

This Deluxe Edition collects the first two trade paperbacks of the series, issues 1-10, and Bill Willingham's prose story from Vol. 1, as well as character sketches.

  • A Must Read!

A great start to a series that mixes a slew of fairy tales into a fun page turning story. If you are planning to read the Fables series, the deluxe editions are the way to do!

  • These aren't your kids fairy tales anymore.

I've read through to about the 7th part of the series and I definitely enjoy it. I've always enjoyed the original Grimm's tales so seeing those characters brought to life in a new way and interact with one another is enjoyable. The main protagonists are primarily Big B (formally known as the big bad wolf) and Snow White. All fables once lived together in another realm and a war broke out with a terrible beast. It forced the fables either into hiding or into our world. The ones who live in our world now have learned to adapt and keep their real identities hidden from the mundies (humans). Unfortunately, things start to unravel in Fable Town and forces Big B and Snow to work together. It's not particularly a love story and has a lot of drama and action. The story is very enthralling. I look forward to finishing the series soon, hopefully. When I explained the premise to friends they said it sounded like the TV series Once Upon a Time. It has the same premise but with a different story. So If you like Once Upon a Time, then you should enjoy Fables.
