Overview

In Rainbow Rowell's Fangirl, Cath is a Simon Snow fan. Okay, the whole world is a Simon Snow fan, but for Cath, being a fan is her life--and she's really good at it. She and her twin sister, Wren, ensconced themselves in the Simon Snow series when they were just kids; it's what got them through their mother leaving.

Reading. Rereading. Hanging out in Simon Snow forums, writing Simon Snow fan fiction, dressing up like the characters for every movie premiere.

Cath's sister has mostly grown away from fandom, but Cath can't let go. She doesn't want to.
Now that they're going to college, Wren has told Cath she doesn't want to be roommates. Cath is on her own, completely outside of her comfort zone. She's got a surly roommate with a charming, always-around boyfriend, a fiction-writing professor who thinks fan fiction is the end of the civilized world, a handsome classmate who only wants to talk about words . . . And she can't stop worrying about her dad, who's loving and fragile and has never really been alone.

For Cath, the question is: Can she do this? Can she make it without Wren holding her hand? Is she ready to start living her own life? And does she even want to move on if it means leaving Simon Snow behind?

  • a forever favorite

Fangirl is a great romance book with real life in college but also with fan fiction. This book has taught me so much stuff on college and how there are so many unexpected things that could happen and how two girls can be as strong as they are without a mother. I first got this book at school and I fell In love with it and I read it over and over in my school year and I saw this book at my local HPB and I was just like I have to get it. Ten out of ten, I love this story too much. #SpringPicks

  • Interesting YA Novel

    Brittany G. - 6 years 1 month ago

A solid second novel from Rainbow Rowell. This is a very character driven book, with a refreshing take on the YA romance genre. It touches on young love, the world of fandoms & the impact of living with social anxiety. If you enjoyed Eleanor & Park you should like this one.

  • Fangirl is one of my comfort-reads #SummerReading

This book is like a big cozy sweater or thick soft blanket for me. It's a comfort book. A book that makes me smile no matter how many times I read it. Levi and Cath are the type of characters that you find yourself falling in love with. The kind of characters that you find yourself thinking about in between reading sessions and then mourning when the book is over. Fangirl is really just a great book. Period. #SummerReading

What a cute book! I did not enjoy the Simon Snow parts of the book, but I really enjoyed the main storyline. #summerreading
