Dark and wonderfully twisted
Mallorie M. - 1 year 4 months agoGone Girl is one of the most dark and twisted suspense novels I have ever read. It takes you through the fragileness of marriage, and the lengths partners will go to in order to please the other. It touches on the loss of identity, and trying to find yourself again after not meeting the expectations of the other. Gillian Flynn is a masterful storyteller, and keeps you guessing until the very end.

Emma H. - 3 years 2 months agoPicking this book up for the first time I thought, "This looks like it will either be amazing or a pretty run of the mill mystery." I realized it was the former almost as soon as I started reading. As with many mysteries, there is a sense of not being able to trust the main characters, but there has never been such a sense of foreboding that something is very, horrifically wrong in their relationship as the way Flynn portrays Nick and Amy Dunne. You find yourself rooting for each of them in turn, especially with the way Flynn has set up the progression of the plot - alternating between characters, each with their own timeline. Through this, the plot twists take on a sense of being almost impossible, with dark, nearly macabre humor and Flynn's depiction of "the perfect couple" interchanging seamlessly from page to page. Despite its complexity, it is not difficult to follow what is happening, making the ending even more stunning. It is one of those few and far between reads that will stay with you for a week or two after reading it, and sometimes still begs the question, what DID happen to Amazing Amy?

The title is eye catching bc it is unusual than what you'd normally see, it draws you in, that that's what I love most about it.

Delightfully dark and twisted

The characters take you on a ride through the human experience of marriage and what it means to lose your identity to be that perfect person for your significant other, and the lengths you will go to so they will accept you, at any costs. Gillian Flynn is a masterful story teller, and keeps you engaged until the last word.

Steeped in psychopathy
Jordan L. - 4 years 3 months agoA refreshing twist on a potential domestic murder case, Flynn uses both leading characters to convince the reader of the other's unreliability. Nick and Amy, a manipulative albeit brilliant couple, demonstrates dramatically the toxicity of an unhappy marriage. Amy's true nature reveals her to be self-promoting, capable up to and including murder in order to secure her failed marriage. Nick, equally as intelligent but not nearly as calculating or steeped in psychopathy, tiptoes around his wife's carefully laid plans, but to what avail? The brutal ramifications of such a marriage bled into the lives of everyone unlucky enough to surround the pair, and the reader is left turning the pages with a sense of hopelessness similar to that which Nick must also feel.
