  • Another great book from a great series

    Adriana H. - 3 years 6 months ago

Heat Rises is the third in the Nikki Heat series, allegedly written by TV sleuth Richard Castle. I found the first book several months ago, while looking for a new author and became hooked. It was only after reading the first three books that I tried an episode of the show ("Castle") and discovered that I liked the book much better! Although fans of the show have told me that there is a great deal of overlap between the books and the television show, on which the books are purportedly based, I found the show to be light and funny. The books are darker and the humor serves as comic relief only. In "Heat Rises", the protagonist Nikki Heat deals with problems on multiple fronts simultaneously as she tries to solve a new crime linked with an old murder. At the same time, she is under fire from her own department and working to uncover her boss's connection to both crimes. The plots of these books are always great and, mystery reader that I am, I can never guess the ending until it is unfolding. But, what really sets this series apart is the writing, which is stellar.
