  • Murder without lifting a finger

Helter Skelter is the written record of Vincent Bugliosi's investigation of the Sharon Tate/ Rosemary LaBianca murders. The book starts off slow, setting the scene up from the perspective of the lawyer himself before drawing you into one of the most fascinating murder cases of all time. Charles Manson was drawn into the spotlight as one of the most prolific serial killers of all time, supposedly committing more crimes than detectives know about, even today. This is truly one of the most gruesome series of murders in the history of true crime and the book does a wonderful job of sucking you in and never letting you go.

  • A True Crime Classic

A milestone of the genre, probably second only to In Cold Blood in terms of true crime significance. I remember coming across this book as a very young person in my mother's library and was captivated by it. It was something of a coming of age experience, as it was the first time I remember being confronted so thoroughly with the evil that lurks in the hearts of men (and Manson girls). I still return to it occasionally and am immediately swept up in the "trial of the century" atmosphere and I still keenly feel it closing the door forever on the Sixties as we knew them. Harrowing and fascinating.
