“Sky…I love that name...The sky is always beautiful. Even when it’s dark or rainy or cloudy, it’s still beautiful to look at. It’s my favorite thing because I know if I ever get lost or lonely or scared, I just have to look up and it’ll be there no matter what…and I know it’ll always be beautiful.” “I’m scared of how disconnected I feel from Hope. I know we’re the same person, but I feel like what happened to her didn’t really happen to me. I feel like I abandoned her…Now I’m two completely separate people. I’m this little girl, eternally scared to death…but I’m also the girl who abandoned her. I feel so guilty for putting up this wall between both lives and I’m scared neither of those lives or those girls will ever feel whole again.” “I don’t want to think about my old names or my old room or all the things that my daddy did to me when I was his princess. I love my new name. I love my new room where I don’t have to worry if the doorknob is going to turn.” There are so many spiritual parallels in Sky/Hope’s story! Like Hope, God delivers us from the father of lies and makes all things new! Like Sky, God adopts us and calls us by a new name; He gives us a new identity! “You’re incredibly brave…you have a very strong heart. A heart that is capable of loving so much about life and people in a way you never dreamt a heart could love….Your heart is so beautiful and someday someone is going to love that heart like it deserves to be loved…never let the things [people do] to you define and separate you from who you are. Promise me that you will never lose Hope.” “Hope, I promise that from this point forward, I will never, ever let you go. I’m going to hold you and carry you with me in my heart forever. You’ll never be alone again…Thank you for giving me the courage to always ask the questions, even when I didn’t want the answers. Thank you for loving me like you love me. Thank you for showing me that we don’t always have to be strong to be there for each other–that it’s okay to be weak, so long as we’re there. And thank you for finding me after all these years….But mostly, thank you for losing me all those years ago…because my life wouldn’t be the same if you had never walked away.”
I can't say enough amazing things about this book. It grips you and pulls you in directions and fills you and breaks your heart all at the same time. One of the greatest authors of our time. You won't regret reading this but make sure you have a free day- you won't want to put it down! #summerreading
