The book was great, especially giving the scientific research on waiting. But I did get lost in the sauce a couple of times when she went really technical about doing nothing, it wasnt as interesting as the other parts of the book. Overall though, it is something that I would recommend everyone to read.
This book changed how I think about work and my relationship to productivity. I read this while I was unemployed and experiencing a lot of anxiety about how I was producing anything. In this book Odell thoughtfully considers how our attention has been monetized to such a degree that we don't grant ourselves space and time to do....nothing. Odell examines art, cultural critics, and her own birdwatching hobby to show how "nothing" is often really just the precursor to something creative and exciting, if only we would let it happen!
