    With the Manson Murders marking the end of the hippie dream, Inherent Vice follows P.I. Larry "Doc" Sportello on a psychedelic journey to help find billionaire Mickey Wolfman at the behest of his once girlfriend Shasta. Throughout the book Doc meets character after character each one seemingly more involved with an organization called The Golden Fang.

    Inherent Vice is one of my favorite summertime novels, filled with California sunshine and psychedelia. The plot is typical of a Pynchon novel in that it has an abundance of plots and subplots that intertwine and may or may not be resolved by the end of the book. A wild ride, full of references to 60's culture, surf music, and other classic detective stories.

    A subterranean odyssey through the sand and salt water of a California that only exists in the nostalgia of those who called the coastal state home throughout the 50s through the 70s. It reads well, and the film adaptation by PTA is also quite stellar.
