I finished reading the trilogy these books make. Loved the story so much the idea of being able to go into a story book has always been something I have wanted to do.
The characters of Inkheart return in this sequel, but this time find themselves on the other side of the divide between this world and the Inkworld. An entire new cast, merely hinted at before, is introduced: the Motley Folk headed by the Black Prince, the two kingdoms of Lombrica and Argenta, and a new reader who rivals the natural skill of Mortimer Folchart. Coming back to a different time, even the author of the story is surprised to see what happens when his characters are left to their own devices. As the story becomes much more colorful and imaginative with its new setting, so does Funke's writing. I enjoyed this book much more than the first and felt that the characters truly came alive in its pages. Many middle books of young adult series take a steep dive in quality, but that cannot be said of this one.
