From #1 New York Times bestselling author Colleen Hoover comes a novel that explores life after tragedy and the enduring spirit of love.
When Leeds meets Layla, he's convinced he'll spend the rest of his life with her--until an unexpected attack leaves Layla fighting for her life. After weeks in the hospital, Layla recovers physically, but the emotional and mental scarring has altered the woman Leeds fell in love with. In order to put their relationship back on track, Leeds whisks Layla away to the bed-and-breakfast where they first met. Once they arrive, Layla's behavior takes a bizarre turn. And that's just one of many inexplicable occurrences.
Feeling distant from Layla, Leeds soon finds solace in Willow--another guest of the B&B with whom he forms a connection through their shared concerns. As his curiosity for Willow grows, his decision to help her find answers puts him in direct conflict with Layla's well-being. Leeds soon realizes he has to make a choice because he can't help both of them. But if he makes the wrong choice, it could be detrimental for all of them.

“Tacos can excuse a lot of bad decisions, but I’m not sure they’re worthy enough to excuse a possession…Anyone would believe they were in a daze or sleepwalking before their mind would automatically start questioning whether or not they were possessed by a ghost.” But “There’s a ghost using my girlfriend’s body.” “I don’t feel guilty for breaking up with her. I feel guilty for ending her life…Two souls leave two bodies at once in the same room. Only one of the bodies is revived. The wrong soul attaches to the revived body, and the right soul becomes stuck, with nowhere to go.” “She’s a ghost who doesn’t want help. I’m a guy who doesn’t want to leave her. We’re communicating through a girl we have no right to be using like we have been…It’s the worst catch-22 imaginable. I can’t break up with the girl I’m falling out of love with, or I won’t get to spend time with the girl I’m falling in love with…It’s a puzzle that only consists of three pieces. Me. Layla. Sable” (aka Willow). “Layla thinks she’s pleasuring her soon-to-be fiance while I’m pretending she’s the ghost I’ve been slowly falling for…I care about Willow. But I’m in love with Layla. But [I’ve] developed a relationship with Willow. Enough of one that [I] would put Layla at risk in order to help Willow.” “I can’t just call up people I know and ask for advice on how to properly hold your girlfriend against her will so your ghost friend can use her body. This is definitely a play-it-by-ear situation…There may not be a handbook for how to deal with a ghost, but a person doesn’t need it to be written down in order to know the difference between right and wrong…It’s hard to know where to draw the line when the lines aren’t even in the same world…We don’t belong in each other’s worlds, but now that we’ve found an easy way to combine them.” “We found each other once–when we met. Then we found each other again–after she died. That makes me believe in us enough to think we could do it a third time…Our love somehow transcended realms…Layla is my soulmate in every realm of life.” From her psychological thriller debut Verity to her dabble into the paranormal Layla, Colleen Hoover is my literary kindred spirit in every genre of literature!
This book was an emotional rollercoaster that I definitely wasn’t expecting. I'm really glad I stuck through with it till the end however because the story manages to come together in a wonderful and mind-boggling way. #SpringPicks
