Overview

The #1 New York Times bestselling (mostly true) memoir from the hilarious author of Furiously Happy.

"Gaspingly funny and wonderfully inappropriate."--O, The Oprah Magazine

When Jenny Lawson was little, all she ever wanted was to fit in. That dream was cut short by her fantastically unbalanced father and a morbidly eccentric childhood. It did, however, open up an opportunity for Lawson to find the humor in the strange shame-spiral that is her life, and we are all the better for it.

In the irreverent Let's Pretend This Never Happened, Lawson's long-suffering husband and sweet daughter help her uncover the surprising discovery that the most terribly human moments--the ones we want to pretend never happened--are the very same moments that make us the people we are today. For every intellectual misfit who thought they were the only ones to think the things that Lawson dares to say out loud, this is a poignant and hysterical look at the dark, disturbing, yet wonderful moments of our lives.

  • The Funniest Book I Have Ever Read

    Lee C. - 1 year 3 months ago

I have read a LOT of books and I can safely say that "Let's Pretend This Never Happened" is the funniest book I have ever read. The first time I read it I was sitting in the break room at work laughing out loud, with tears streaming down my face as my coworkers wondered what in the world was wrong with me. I have bought multiple copies and shared them with friends. Jenny Lawson, also known as The Bloggess, has led a very strange and hilarious life. The daughter of a taxidermist, some of her earliest and strangest memories involved the carcasses of dead animals. As an adult, she shares the stories of Beyonc the Giant Chicken and the Sasquatch on the side of the road which will have you rolling on the floor. This is a great book to pop open and read a chapter when you need a pick-me-up. I highly recommend it.

  • Because she's awesome

    Annie G. - 5 years 3 months ago

Ever peek in someone's diary? Of course not because you are a good person. It doesn't mean the curiosity isn't there. That's what reading this book is very much like. So read it and some more of her other books and laugh and finally quench that desire. It's the dialogue that swarms through Jenny Lawson's head and her real choices in life and those around her that make this so funny to read. Life is full of humor and things that just don't make sense. Lawson's mind demands sense, in a much quirkier way than most. So as she journals her moments in life she contemplates her own thought process and those that she must interact with. It's very humorous and a quick read. She purposely makes chapters short so you can feel better about yourself and sneak in a quick read. I actually read Furiously Happy first. I laughed out loud. Gut laughs people, very deep. I honestly enjoyed Furiously Happy a little bit more. I am talking fourth and inches. However, knowing her from that book I read this one with more enthusiasm and knowledge of her. Either way, I seriously recommend reading any of her books. If you are a busy person with little time, she actually became famous first for blogging and you can still follow her blog. Yay. All good news and very feel good.

  • A modern day Twain with a fondness for awful taxidermy

    Madison C. - 6 years 11 months ago

At once profound and profane, Texas author Jenny Lawson's memoir is the often side-splittingly funny look through Lawson's life, from her sometimes-bizarre childhood with her taxidermist father through her adult family life, where her lighthearted adventures are balanced with motherhood, internet fame and combatting a variety of personal disorders. Lawson's breezy writing style is just the thing for those wanting to read an autobiography full of humor and adversity without being weighed down by pretentiousness.
