Ilona and Andrew have an amazing talent for vivid, witty descriptions. Here they sketch some of Kate Daniels' supporting characters: "When you saw the Kodiak of Atlanta, one word immediately sprang to mind: 'big.' Mahon looked like if the roof suddenly caved in, he would catch it, grunt, and hold it up." "Raphael ... there was something about his face that made women obsess. Then they looked at his better half and decided he wasn't worth dying over. Andrea was nine months pregnant and communicating mostly in snarls." "Ghastek was a dagger poised at my back. So far that dagger remained sheathed and perfectly cordial, but I never forgot where his allegiance lay." Magic Binds is the ninth of ten Kate Daniels novels. Once upon a time, I was a little reluctant to begin reading this series. The trouble with a vividly imagined heroic saga about magic, monsters and sword fights: there are bound to be gruesome visuals. Indeed, there are hideosities, atrocities, and battle scenes awash with blood. But other scenes are emotionally gripping, intriguing, funny and sexy. The characters grow on you. I've come to care about valiant, outspoken Kate and lionhearted Curran, and all their colorful family and friends. Even their opponents are interesting people, and a maturing Kate has found a knack for converting them into allies. Now that the series is drawing toward a close, I am reluctant to say goodbye. Ilona Andrews' extraordinary writing is fantastic entertainment. Start with Magic Bites and give it a try.
Love the series as whole. Kate take no bull from anyone.
