Excellent Escape in Fantasy
Holly G. - 6 years 4 months agoGreat read!! Kate Daniels is the grown up love child of Harry Potter and Katniss Everdeen! The books are exciting and fast-paced. The series brings in characters that are lovable, laughable, and complete a whole world of magic for the reader. Highly recommend if you are looking for a fantasy adult series. #summerreading

Jessica A. - 6 years 6 months agoI’ve read the entire Kate Daniels series several times. It is a great series written by a husband and wife team, with well developed characters (you even know a good deal about the supporting characters) and believable dialogue. This is the first book in the series, and the authors do a marvelous job of introducing you to the state of the world without large info dumps. The setting is “post shift” Atlanta. A number of years ago (50?) the balance between technology and magic changed causing magic shifts to takeover. There was a number of years of crazy terrifying shifts that destroyed much of what we know today of the world. When this book starts, the shifts have somewhat normalized, they are still random but enough it’s been happening long enough for it to be commonplace. Kate is a merc with a mouth who’s hiding a secret she can’t afford to get out. She takes a job investigating a murder and she meets all sorts of interesting people and crazy hijinks ensue. Main points: Mercs, Magic, ugly/people husk vampires, shifters. Good book, you should read it.
