Her employer, suffragette Lady Rowan Compton, soon became her patron, taking the remarkably bright youngster under her wing. A Compassionate Private Investigator
Would RecommendMarilyn H. - 19 days agoThis mystery is not your ordinary whodunit, and Maisie Dobbs is not your ordinary detective. Her work is not about punishing crime. Maisie investigates situations to find a way to make things better for everyone involved. After her own heroic and tragic experience as an army nurse in the Great War, Maisie returned to an English homeland full of walking wounded. Not all scars are externally visible. Many survivors, including Maisie, suffer from emotional scarring and shell shock. To give help in her own unique way, Maisie applies her empathy, intuition and psychological insight to a career as a consulting private investigator. Her cases are intriguing, sometimes frightening, and always heart-tugging. Jacqueline Winspear is to be congratulated on writing a series that is original and deeply moving.
