My Grandma asked me to tell you she's sorry
Would RecommendHerbert K. - 4 months agoThis review has been hidden because of spoilers. A grandmother who tries to be there for her granddaughter that is bulliied. Knowing that she (Grandma) is about to die and this child still needs her, she very cleverly devises a treasure hunt (if you will) that allows the granddaught to encounter people that would not seem a likely source of support. The journey allows the grandma's story to unfold, which leads to a new found confidence for this middle schooler. I love this book.

The Kingdom of Miamas
Kristen B. - 2 years 11 months agoAt only 7 years old, Elsa loses her grandmother. Her amazing grandmother that took care of her, loved her, and told her magical stories about the Kingdom of Miamas. Elsa is devastated but soon discovers that her grandmother left her a series of apology letters to give to different people from their lives. As Elsa hands off these letters, she soon learns that the Kingdom of Miamas might not be a fairy tale after all. Suspend your belief of how typical 7-year-olds behave and treat this like one of the stories that Elsa's grandmother tells her. Elsa does not act like a typical 7-year-old, but that's why I love her. She is fierce, smart, and emotional. Backman writes so fluidly that this book is an absolute delight to devour.

A Gem of a Story
Muriel L. - 5 years 6 months agoThis is a truly magical and delightful read about seven year old Elsa and her relationship with a most unusual grandmother. I wish the reader had been allowed to get to know Grandma even better before she died. Elsa is entrusted with carrying out Grandma’s wishes by searching out people Grandma feels she has wronged in life and giving each a letter . Elsa has quite an adventure contacting some complex and unusual people . If you like books with a bit of fairytale magic, quirky, unusual but lovable characters, and a message about family, I think you will like this book.

My new favorite book.
Jocelyn M. - 5 years 7 months agoI am completely in love with this book. I am currently reading it and simultaneously listening to the ebook with my children. Hackman's character development is brilliant. You find yourself fully invested in every single character and their backstory, (and there are a lot of them.) He moves between the fairy tale world and real life in a way that is just magical. We borrowed this from the library but I'm here to purchase a copy to keep and read over and over.
